For the past year or so, it's been very difficult to find stock of Hasbro's Force FX Lightsabers. Finally, Hasbro have produced some new ones and they are arriving end of this month and also in November and December.
Don't get us wrong here. We don't me the cheapy little kids' lightsabers. Those are always around. We mean the ones for adults. Metal hilts, full scale, polycarbonate blade and sound effects sampled from the movies. Naturally these are more expensive than the kiddie toys, but they are pretty awesome looking and about the closest you can get to their movie counterparts. The designs are very close to the original movie lightsabers, with the main diffence being slightly thicker hilts required to house the batteries and electronics.
Hasbro have produced four new lightsabers in this new Black Series range of Force FX lightsabers. You can choose between Kylo Ren, Luke Skywalker, Yoda and Darth Vader. Aside from Kylo Ren's the others have been previously produced. Whilst we haven't seen them up close, we assume the designs will be the same, but with different packaging and a different stand. It also appears as though the blades are not removable as they were on some previous models.
Hasbro Star Wars Kylo Ren Lightsaber
Kylo Ren's lightsaber is based on the character that's appearing in Episode VII. His lightsaber features a rather unique 3 blade design similar to a traditional sword. Two blades act as the hand guard. Whilst the design looks similar to the movie counterpart, we believe the glowing blade will look like traditional lightsabers as opposed to the unstable fiery looking blade in the movie.
Hasbro Star Wars Luke Skywalker Lightsaber
Luke Skywalker's lightsaber appears to be based on the lightsaber he gets given by Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars Episode IV which was Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber. Whilst we haven't seen this new model up close, we assume it's very close to the previous release by Hasbro of this lightsaber which we did see and reviewed here on YouTube. However, it doesn't look as though the blade is removable and the stand looks different.
Hasbro Star Wars Yoda Lightsaber
Yoda's lightsaber is based on the design seen in Star Wars Episode II. It's around half the size of the other lightsabers, making it ideal for displaying in smaller areas. Although not meant for children, the smaller size would make it easier for a younger person to hold. This lightsaber has also been previously produced and we assume the new one will be very similar, if not identical.
Hasbro Star Wars Darth Vader Lightsaber
Darth Vader's lightsaber is based on the one seen in Star Wars Episode V. Again it looks like it's the same as the one made in previous Hasbro Force FX releases, but with a different stand. Whilst, being popular for being the Sith Lord's weapon of choice, the hum from the lightsaber was more aggressive than other lightsabers. We assume the new model will feature the same sound. You can see our review of the old model on YouTube here.
Why should you pre-order?
We're expecting the demand for these new lightsabers to be very large. With Episode VII looming, many collectors are already going crazy for Star Wars merchandise. With the price of these at around £159.95, they make a perfect Christmas present for a loved one. Pre-Ordering will secure you a lightsaber for around 10% deposit. Once it's in we'll let you know and you have 30 days to pay the remaining balance.
